He is rumoured to be wanted by Rudi Garcia at Olympique Marseille, he has been away from his home country for almost five years now, according to reports he has grown tired of not being a regular in Arsenal’s starting lineup, but Arsene Wenger insists he hasn’t heard from the French club, and besides, Olivier Giroud still has a place at Arsenal.
I have had no approach from Marseille. We want to keep Giroud
the Arsenal manager said, ahead of the Premier League game against Leicester. With his own future uncertain though, no one can know what his successor, if there is one, will think about the French striker.
Wenger was also asked about Jamie Vardy, and his failed attempt to lure him to Emirates last summer.
No regrets, I think transfers are part of the game, successful or not successful. I don’t think there was anything I could have done differently. We did what we could do. He made his decision and I respect that
the Frenchman told reporters, before adding something that could leave someone with the impression that Vardy asked for guarantees that he would be playing regularly at Arsenal, and refused their offer because Wenger would not, could not, guarantee him anything like that.
He would have been one of the strikers we have available. When you are a big club, you cannot guarantee anyone anything
the Arsenal manager said.
