Before the match: Italy vs England
The history between Italy and England
In the last 7 matches, Italy have won four, England one, and the match has ended in a draw twice. Italy’s unbeaten streak is also noteworthy, they have won 14 games in a row and, even more impressive, they have only lost once in their last 33 games.
Italy
The Italians are finally in the final, after a long and trying competition. Now they will do everything they can to not let this victory at Wembley, one of the greatest arenas of modern football, escape them. Since the group stage, they have dominated all their matches, except for the one against Spain, which was very competitive. It took a determined Chiesa to give them the lead. The Spanish came back fighting but the Italians won the match on penalties in the end.
England
The English also don’t want to imagine defeat. They have been efficient throughout the competition, not falling into the trap that could have been set by Ukraine or Denmark, and even beating their long-time enemy, Germany. For the final, they will have their fans, who have been waiting for this final for over half a century, with them.
Italy vs England: Match Analysis
Italy: The Azzurri in the final
The Italians have had their eyes on a victory at Wembley for a while but, first, they had to win their semi-final. That has now been achieved and the Azzurri are looking forward to the final. Since the beginning of the competition, Mancini’s team has been impressive, despite not being the best squad in the competition. Their coach manages to make them play together and has managed to bring together a collective of players. One more match and they can lift the cup.
England: 55 years later
The English finally have a final, the first since their World Cup victory. They managed to defeat the Danes in a match that could have been their downfall. In the end, the referee awarded them a penalty that some might consider generous but which allowed them to reach the final at home, at Wembley. However, the Three Lions were largely dominant throughout the match, with Sterling, in particular, causing the Danish defence a great deal of pain.
