It may be winter in Sydney, but the atmosphere was definitely warm in Arsenal’s arrival there, with hundreds of fans welcoming the team.
Soon after settling down at their hotel, Arsene Wenger talked to the Press, and he had questions coming about all of Arsenal’s… hot topics.
“No”, was his single-word answer when asked if Alexis Sanchez (who has been given a few extra days to rest, after his participation in the Confederations Cup) has asked to leave the club.
Nobody knows today if Sanchez will be in the final year of his contract next season because he can as well extend his contract with us at the start of the season or during the season. It’s not necessarily the last year of his contract at Arsenal Football Club
the Gunners’ manager said. Next, he talked about Kylian Mbappe, admitting that Arsenal are interested, saying
I believe nobody can say they are not interested in a player of that calibre
adding though a couple of lines that made him look super conscious of the fact that Arsenal are facing some overwhelming competition in the young Frenchman’s case.
He gets up in the morning and can choose where he wants to go. There’s not many players who have that kind of luck because he’s 18 years of age and has a red carpet open for him
Wenger said, practically admitting that the competition to sign Mbappe is so big that the Gunners’ chances are rather limited.
The Frenchman also talked about Monaco’s Thomas Lemar, saying
he’s a player that we have looked at, but the rest is only speculation.
