“We’ll never forget this night. While others sleep, we dream”, Atletico Madrid posted on their Twitter account, along with a photo from their new impressive stadium, the Wanda Metropolitano.
An Antoine Griezmann goal in the 61st minute, the only one of the match against Malaga, and gave the Rojiblancos a 1-0 win, a truly… historic goal and win, given that they were the first at Atletico’s new home.
I am very happy to score the first goal in this magnificent stadium and hopefully many more will come
the Frenchman told reporters after the game, looking very impressed with the atmosphere created by almost 65,000 Atleti fans.
We trained here on Thursday but we were missing the 12th player [the fans]. It’s the best stadium I’ve ever played in. I hope they push us in every game
Griezmann said, thrilled to have such a passionate crowd on his back, in what is a truly impressive stadium.
Many features of Wanda Metropolitano make it Spain’s most modern stadium, while visually it is nothing less than “wow”, as Atletico’s fans could see for themselves last night.
Atleti are hosting Sevilla the coming Saturday, while on September 27 the stadium will be the scenery of its first Champions League game, a massive one against Chelsea.
