Mysoccerclubusa.com, which aims to enter a fan-owned team in the National Premier Soccer League in the United States, was recently mentioned in the New York Times Soccer blog as it looks to attract thousands who will contribute $50 each to the venture.

This has attracted new interest in something we have questioned before, due to concerns about where the fans’ $50 is going exactly. We talked to the founder on more than one occasion via email, but received no answers as to why non-profit status is still being processed, for example.

A similar venture, MyFC in the UK, delineates where the money (35GBP) members pay is actually going (7.5GPB to administration, and 27.5GPB to a registered Industrial and Provident Society), whereas Mysoccerclubusa.com has not provided similar information with the money from over 100 users apparently going to a Paypal account.

Both on our post and on The Offside blog today which also commented on this, a commenter has claimed I am both “sad” and perpetrating a “smear” for raising these questions, which remain unanswered by the founder. Both comments appeared shortly after The Offisde linked to our original questioning article.

The mysoccerclubusa.com founder, Trevor Hayward, who lives in Westchester County, New York, has not responded to follow-up questions in recent weeks.

Commenter on The Offside, Dave Sheiner, who says he is a “new member” of mysoccerclubusa, says that “its pretty sad that a man spends all his time trying to bad mouth and organization. I’ve been a member over a month now and the folks behind the effort definitely know what they’re doing and have some major announcements coming up to the public. So Tom, please grow up and move on, you’ve got a very interesting site there, i’d consider focusing some more time on it and less on a smear campaign based on forum postings.”

Commenter on Pitch Invasion, John Gamborda, says “Tom you’re a sad man that really needs to move on, does this make you feel better about yourself ? trying to smear others efforts, i’m not a member of MySC USA yet, but i have spoken to the people behind the effort and they surely have they’re things together.”

Similar wording and writing style, isn’t it? And oddly enough, having checked this with The Offside, it turns out the IP addresses are identical. “John” and “Dave” are most likely the same person. And according to the IP records, that person lives in Westchester County, New York.
