Since the World Cup preliminary draw took place yesterday, let’s remember last year’s tournament in this week’s photo series. We can start with perhaps the most memorable sight, as it seemed every last human in Germany was outside watching at the vast Fanfests.

The Fan Fests were such a good idea and arguably provided as good an atmospehere as the stadiums (perhaps better!)
I attended four matches in the stadiums but my two lasting memories were:
1) Oliver Neuville’s last minute winner against Poland outside the Schokoladenmuseum in Köln and;
2) England/Sweden at the Deutzer Werft in Köln. This had enough room for 60,000 fans which is more than the capacity of the stadium where the match was played. Take all the FIFA delegates and sponsors tickets out of that and you quickly realise the proportions.
Viva Colonia!
