According to various reports claiming to have information from people very close to Alexis Sanchez, the Chile international is so frustrated after Arsenal’s refusal to let him move to Manchester City, that he doesn’t want to play for them again.
Arsene Wenger thinks that is not the case though, pointing out that the 28-year-old striker has every reason to look at his best these next months.
Your interest is always to perform and he is 100 per cent committed, I have no doubt about that. It’s very difficult for me to speak about what happened because what I want the player to do now is focus on his career, on his season and on Arsenal
the Gunners manager told reporters, brushing off rumours that Sanchez doesn’t even want to return to London once his obligations with his national team are over.
I spoke before about integrity and values and I always make sure my commitment is at the level expected from the people who pay me and have confidence in me. I think the players’ side is exactly the same
Wenger said, before talking about what happened and Sanchez ended up staying at Arsenal, after all.
I can’t tell you everything that happened with Lemar, because after that, when you decide to let a player of Sanchez’s calibre go, you need to replace him because nobody would understand that you let the player go. When you cannot do it, you keep the player and make a financial sacrifice because what you want, at the end of the day, is to have a team with good potential and top quality
the Frenchman said, referring to Thomas Lemar’s decision to stay at Monaco, something that forced Arsenal to cancel the deal with City over Sanchez.
