He had offers from Premier League clubs, Galatasaray, even teams from China and the US, but he chose to spend next season in the Championship.
I am delighted to join Aston Villa
John Terry told the club’s official website, right after agreeing on a one-year deal.
It’s a club I have admired from afar for many years. There are fantastic facilities at Bodymoor Heath, Villa Park is one of the finest stadiums in the country and there’s a good group of players here, with an experienced and successful manager in Steve Bruce
the former Chelsea captain said, giving an idea of what exactly made him choose Villa over other clubs that had approached him.
I can’t wait to get started now and look to help the squad achieve something special this season
Terry added. This will be the first time after 21 years(!) that the former England international will wear the jersey of a club that won’t be Chelsea, for whom he played his last (of 690) match back in May.
Once last season was over, he had implied that he was considering retiring, but turns out the will to play proved stronger than the inner voice that ‘tempted’ him to hang his boots up right after winning another Premier League title.
