A year ago, Atletico Madrid and Diego Simeone agreed to shorten their contract which was supposed to expire in 2020. After their renewed deal, the Argentine coach was committed to the club only until the summer of 2018.
Obviously, things changed, since the Madrid club have just announced that “Cholo” has signed a two-year contract extension, tying him down until summer 2020.
Diego Pablo Simeone renews for two seasons. Ole, ole, ole
Atletico announced through their Twitter account, much to the delight of their fans, for sure.
Simeone has been in charge at Atletico since 2011, has led the team to a LaLiga title, a Copa del Rey, a Europa League triumph, not to mention two Champions League finals (in three years!), no matter if Atleti lost both to city rivals Real.
The Simeone news couldn’t have come at a better moment, as the team are getting ready to play their first game ever in their new stadium, the Wanda Metropolitano, on September 16, hosting Malaga.
The Rojiblancos have picked up four points in their first two LaLiga matches this season, having no new faces in the squad, because of the transfer ban imposed on them by FIFA.
