Liverpool were hoping to have signed Naby Keita by now, they definitely tried, they even made two official offers, with the second one at €75 million, but still RB Leipzig refused to sell their most precious player.
Ralf Rangnick, their sporting director, has repeated several times these last weeks that Keita is simply not for sale this summer, to the point of… annoying Liverpool, and maybe the player himself.
Rangnick said it once again earlier today, talking to Sport Bild, explaining once again why RB Leipzig are not going to sell Keita in this transfer period, regardless of the offers they have already received, and could still receive until the last day of August.
It does not matter at all whether it’s €75 million or €100 million. We have not developed for five years so that we can lose one of our best players in the first Champions League season. That would make no sense. We want to be successful in sports
the RB Leipzig sporting director said, despite knowing that if they fail to convince Keita to sign a new deal these next months, he will – most probably – leave next summer for ‘just’ €50 million. His contract expires in 2020, but there is a clause that he can leave two years earlier, if a club pays the aforementioned amount.
I am not currently assuming that we will be able to extend his contract prematurely
