Tottenham are hosting Chelsea tomorrow, and a good part of Mauricio Pochettino‘s Press conference ahead of this London derby was spent on how are things between him and Antonio Conte, who made some less than flattering remarks about the Spurs earlier this month.
Last week, we had an opportunity to talk a little bit and he was very clear with me. He tried to explain what he wanted to say and sometimes the headlines are not the same as what we want to say. He explained to me and it’s not a big issue
the Argentine manager said, playing down the whole controversy generated by comments Conte made regarding Tottenham’s lack of signings and overall ambition to win the Premier League and play in the Champions League.
He did not apologise, he just tried to explain things to me. It is one thing how he relates things to you, it is another how you perceive the message and translate it to the fans
Pochettino also said, clearing out that there was no apology from Conte’s side. As for the game itself, Tottenham’s manager looked extra motivated, given that it’s Chelsea they are facing.
I respect him and Chelsea and it’s time to play and show we are better. It’s always a challenge to play the champions
