The Champions League group stage game against Borussia Dortmund on Tuesday was when Fernando Llorente made his Tottenham debut, after his £12million move from Swansea City on deadline day.
Interestingly, that specific day he was expected to sign at Chelsea, who had been after him for quite some time, and had/have Antonio Conte on their bench, with whom Llorente has already worked at Juventus.
At the very last minute, Pochettino called me and convinced me to join Tottenham. The truth is that Chelsea had been after me for a long time but at the end you know how this works
the Spaniard told The Daily Mail, explaining what made him change his mind, and join Tottenham instead of Chelsea, namely a phone call by Spurs manager, Mauricio Pochettino.
I am very happy because at the end everything came out perfect. Tottenham are an amazing club with a wonderful project and I think I fit in very well
the Spanish striker said, having played his first minutes for the Spurs in their Champions League group stage debut.
As for Pochettino, Llorente remembered that his professional debut for Athletic Bilbao was exactly against his current coach in 2005, an Espanyol player back then.
