Switzerland qualified for the World Cup finals after their goalless draw at home versus Northern Ireland (and thanks to that non-existent penalty in the first leg, in Belfast, which led to the only goal of the two legs), but there were some… less than positive moments towards the end of the game, when Haris Seferovic was substituted.
A good number of fans jeered and whistled the Swiss striker, who, in turn, reacted by applauding the fans ironically, after putting two fingers in his mouth first, a clear gesture of disapproval of the whistles heard.
It was a pity. We should learn some things from the Northern Irish fans
Switzerland coach Vladimir Petkovic said, backing his player, and turning against the fans who jeered him.
But now I do not want to incite arguments, but to enjoy the moment that we are definitely in Russia. I am very happy with my boys. With everything they have done, not only in the game against Northern Ireland
the Swiss-Bosnian coach said, trying to focus on the positives of the night, adding
my team has an excellent spirit, positivity and will. They always want to achieve the highest goals. I hope they will be even hungrier in the future. It will be a highlight for us to be present at the World Cup.
