Having just earned the privilege to lead Real Madrid for another term as their president (since no one contested him), Florentino Perez gave his “this is what we’re doing next” speech at the Santiago Bernabeu avoiding referring to Cristiano Ronaldo‘s case, but later he talked to Onda Cero, and there he said… as much as he could say on the subject.
It has affected me how the media treated Cristiano, the presumption of innocence was not respected
the Real Madrid president first said, doing one of the things he loves the most, attack the media.
Cristiano is not angry about who has to pay his fine. The only thing I know is that Cristiano is very angry with the treatment he has received in the press
Perez then said, asked if Ronaldo has asked the club to pay the fine if he is indeed found guilty of concealing a big chunk of his 2011-2014 earnings.
I believe everyone must comply with their tax obligations and I know that Cristiano always does things the right way. Cristiano has the same corporate structure he had in England, where he spent many years without problems. I am sure that Cristiano complies with his tax duties, it must be a confusion that will be cleared
the Madrid boss went on saying, using the Portuguese star’s lack of problems with the British authorities as proof(?) of his innocence in Spain as well.
Last, answering questions about Ronaldo’s future, Perez said
All I can say is that he has a contract with Madrid. I have not spoken to Ronaldo, I have just heard what has been in the newspapers. The last time I spoke to Ronaldo was after the Cardiff match and we spoke about next season. The clause for Cristiano is £1bn. We have not had an offer for Cristiano. The Sheikh at PSG is a friend of mine and he hasn’t called me nor have we talked.
