Having enjoyed a successful year at Allianz Riviera, and with the prospect of playing Champions League football the coming season (if they don’t fail in the playoffs), Mario Balotelli chose to stay at Nice.
The Italian striker signed a new contract, but that’s where it starts getting really interesting…
Nice were excited to announce the signing of the new deal, but avoided mentioning anything about its duration, or the money that Balotelli will receive.

Numerous reports claim that the new contract is for just another season, which is a rather clear indication that Nice did want to keep Balotelli, but didn’t want to find themselves in the position of former clubs of his, being left with an expensive long-term deal.
Under Lucien Favre, a coach who proved very successful in getting the best out of Balotelli, the Italian scored 17 goals in 28 matches in all competitions last season, and, most of all, didn’t create any problems at the club.
No one can guarantee Nice though that Balotelli’s professional behavior will be repeated for a second straight year.
Another interesting detail is that according to all reports, the Italian striker accepted a salary cut, despite the fact that he had a very good season to show for in his negotiations with Nice.
