With just one year left on his contract, and with Manchester United looking set to sign another central midfielder, Nemanja Matic, Galatasaray saw an opportunity to sign Marouane Fellaini, but Jose Mourinho looks totally unwilling to let the Belgium international go.
It’s easier for Galatasaray to get me than to get Marouane. Forget it. He’s too important to me
the Portuguese told reporters after United’s 3-0 win over Valerenga in a friendly match, as they’re preparing for the new Premier and Champions League season.
A day earlier, the director of Galatasaray had said that the club were very close to signing the Belgian midfielder, telling reporters that a ‘surprise’ was about to happen.
It remains to be seen though what the player himself will want, if United do sign Matic, which will automatically mean that Fellaini’s game time the coming season at Old Trafford won’t be as much as last year.
Mourinho talked about Romelu Lukaku as well, scorer of another goal for United.
It’s nice. Strikers like to score goals. It’s not important for me but probably it is for him, for his confidence. We managers are many times happy with strikers, even when they don’t score, because of the way they participate in team organization and game plans. But to them, scoring goals is always important
the Portuguese manager said.
