With Ashley Young getting injured in the second half of Man Utd’s game against Everton, Jose Mourinho decided to send Luke Shaw in. The youngster’s last touch, a shot outside the box, was what earned United the penalty that helped them get at least a draw, after Ashley Williams clearly blocked the ball with his right hand.
Shaw had some good moments, but according to his manager, that was only because he was playing on the side of the field where he could hear his instructions.
He was doing things in the second half because he was reacting to my voice. If he was playing on the other side, for sure he would not do it because I was not there to think for him
Mourinho told BT Sports, right after the final whistle at Old Trafford, and the draw that limited United’s chances of a top-four finish further more.
I think he has to change his football brain. I think he has lots of potential but the football brain and the professional brain has to be in with the talent
Mourinho also said, adding
he has talent, I want to help him. I think he has a future here
