Looking at the table of the Champions League Group H after Tottenham’s 3-1 win over Borussia Dortmund at Wembley you see three points for the Premier League side, but Mauricio Pochettino couldn’t stress enough after the game that for him the win was so much more than ‘just’ three points.
It was so important to start well in a tough game. It is more than three points. Sometimes you can’t dominate, you have to play a different way and the team is more mature now. We can learn a lot from this game
the Spurs manager told reporters after the match, thrilled to have seen his team deal perfectly against a very-very competitive Borussia Dortmund side, that received Pochettino’s praise as well.
Dortmund played really well, they dominated the first half. They are a very aggressive team, we struggled a little to pass the ball quickly
the Argentine said, adding
we increased our level in the second half and we were very clinical in front of goal. At half-time we fixed some problems and modified the position of some players. The tempo of the game decreased which was better for us.
Heung Min Son opened the score for Tottenham just four minutes into the game, Andriy Yarmolenko made it 1-1 with a magnificent goal soon after that, but Harry Kane responded in a matter of minutes, before adding a second personal right on the hour mark, to give the Spurs a major 3-1 victory.
