Some doubted the coexistence of Romelu Lukaku and Jose Mourinho would be beneficial to the Belgium international, given how little the Portuguese manager… appreciated him at Chelsea, last time they worked together.
One week in, after Man United’s start of their preseason, and Lukaku is already full of praise for the way Mourinho has started improving him as a player.
He knows what I can bring to the team and he’s someone who is pushing me. I push myself too but he makes me a better player. I think I learned a lot from him in the last week and I’m glad I can work with him
the former Everton striker told reporters. As for scoring his first goal for United in the 2-1 friendly win over Real Salt Lake, Lukaku kind of downplayed it, focusing on the work that still needs to be done instead.
I’m happy for my goal. There is still a lot of work to do; as a team we know we need to be much better. But I’m glad I’m here because you really see it’s a big club and that was the challenge I wanted. I have to make sure I stay focused and have the same ambition I’ve always had and work hard – that’s the key to success
the Belgian striker said. Next up for United is a Manchester derby… far away from England, in Houston, Texas, an International Champions Cup clash against Pep Guardiola’s City.
