Reporters at the Press conference after the Europa League playoff match that Everton won over Hajduk Split probably didn’t expect to hear Ronald Koeman pronounce the name of a potential transfer target, but he did, surprising many.
The Dutch manager was asked if he would be open to signing a player even on a temporary basis, just for a few months, on loan from some other club.
Is that about Costa?
Koeman replied… asking, before going on to give a rather surprising full answer.
Of course you like to sign players for the future, but if you can get the best one that way, then why not? That’s for six months, the season, two years
the manager of the Toffees said, looking very open to the possibility of ‘hosting’ Diego Costa at Everton even just until January, when the Spain international’s preferred destination, Atletico Madrid, will again be able to sign new players, with their ban finally over.
We have the possibility maybe to sign good players, but we don’t play in the Champions League – and that sometimes makes things very difficult
Koeman added, acknowledging that the lack of Champions League football is making things difficult for Everton to attract top-top players.
