Everton moved rather… quietly, and early in the summer secured the services of Davy Klaassen, Ajax’s former captain.
Talking to reporters, Ronald Koeman praised his new signing not only for his technical qualities, but maybe mostly for his… leadership, that extra something he gave Ajax wearing the armband, despite his young age.
I’m delighted we’ve been able to bring Davy to Everton. He’s a player who is only 24 but has a lot of experience and is a leader on the pitch. He has already captained Ajax for two seasons and that shows you the type of person he is
the Everton manager said, thrilled to have his compatriot at his disposal.
He is hardworking, likes to press and, of course, will give us more creativity and goals. It is another major signing for Everton Football Club and I am really happy we have been able to complete the deal so early in the summer
Koeman added, relieved to know that Klaassen’s signing didn’t turn into a summer soap opera.
According to reports, Everton will pay Ajax £23.6m, about 27 million euros, not a small fee, but definitely not a ‘crazy’ one, considering the amounts of money flying in the air in international football these days.
