Almost every summer these last years there has been a lot of talk regarding Romelu Lukaku moving to a top European club, and it looks like this summer the Belgian will insist on leaving Everton more than ever before.
Even so, there is at least one man at Goodison Park who believes the club should do absolutely everything necessary to keep Lukaku, despite the fact that his contract expires in June 2019.
If Everton do keep Lukaku next season, but fail to convince him to sign a new deal, they will be left with a highly valuable player who, in May 2018, will be just one year away from moving to another club… for free.
I would keep him for next season at least
Everton manager Ronald Koeman told the Mirror, avoiding saying if he will maintain his position if the Belgium international insists on refusing signing a new contract.
Koeman’s comment comes as no surprise, since it would be unthinkable not to want his most valuable player to stay. It is though a common secret at Goodison Park that Lukaku, more and more, feels that he is ready to make a huge step forward in his career, and join a top club, one that will offer him the chance to play in the Champions League, where a player of his quality rightfully belongs.
That’s something not even Koeman can argue against.
