It has turned into some sort of… soap opera, in which new guest stars appear every day, but in this case, the man who talked publicly about the ‘penalty incident’ at PSG’s home game against Lyon last weekend had two reasons to share his opinion.
Cavani deserves respect. He has been scoring goals for years and taking penalties, there has to be respect
Diego Forlan told Radio Sport 890, taking the side of his compatriot (reason number one), having been a formidable striker himself (reason number two).
Neymar would not have done that to Messi. He did not want Cavani to take the penalty. He was like a little boy annoying him
the Uruguayan said, obviously frustrated by when and how Neymar tried to… impose his own rule at PSG over the “who takes the penalties” issue, something that had to have been resolved before the game, if not right after the Brazilian joined PSG, and definitely not in the middle of a big match.
Forlan is not the only one who has taken Cavani’s side in his dispute with Neymar, claiming that the Brazilian would have never done the same with Messi.
The other side of the same coin though, is that at Barcelona, Neymar never needed to ask to take a penalty, since Messi himself passed him the ball on a number of occasions, even when Neymar had missed the previous penalty he had taken.
