Barcelona beat Alaves 3-1 in the Copa del Rey final, in what was Luis Enrique’s farewell game at the ‘Blaugrana’, after three very successful seasons as their coach.
After the final whistle, the departing Spaniard made a quick recap of his spell at Camp Nou, highlighting working with a player like Lionel Messi.
Leo is an extraterrestrial in every sense and I’m very fortunate that I was able to enjoy the best, or one of the best, versions of him
Enrique told reporters, having seen the Argentine super star score his 54th goal of the season, the first for Barcelona in the final.
Without a doubt he’s the number one and to be that you have to control every aspect and be very strong physically. He takes perfect care of himself, and there’s still a lot more to come from Messi
Enrique said as well, confident that Barcelona’s biggest star will continue to dazzle.
As for coaching the ‘Blaugrana’ for the last time, the 47-year-old looked satisfied with what he achieved with the club these last three years, winning a total of nine titles.
I feel happy because I have enjoyed a lot making Barca fans happy by winning trophies and that makes me proud. I am the one who has decided to stop because it will be the best for me and the for the players, they need potent and intense stimulus. Nine trophies out of 13 is a pretty good record
the Spanish coach said.
