With €222m euros at their disposal, Barcelona are in the transfer market to buy at least two players, and one name that has appeared in several reports the last 24 hours is Ousmane Dembele’s.
The young Frenchman had a great season with Borussia Dortmund, his first at the German club, showing potential big enough to make even bigger clubs get interested in him.
To leave Borussia though this summer, he would need the club’s consent. Would BVB be willing to let one of their most prized assets leave?
The transfer fee is not enough. I remember Kevin de Bruyne, he was the Bundesliga’s record transfer. When you see the years after, it was not the best transfer though as the team [Wolfsburg] lost lots of quality
Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke told Eurosport, an answer most media outlets considered a downright ‘no’ to Barcelona. The first sentence of his answer though could be seen as a small opening for the Catalan club.
Big money alone wouldn’t make Dortmund consider to sell Dembele, but things could be different if a big-money offer was combined with players who would make the opposite trip, from Barcelona to Borussia.
I think we’ve made clear that Dembele will stay with us. He will definitely stay
Watzke then said, leaving his previous “the transfer fee is not enough” statement hang in the air.
