‘Done deal’, according to Manchester United sources. ‘No deal yet. Chelsea are still in’, according to Everton sources. One thing is for sure, as long as there is no official announcement from any of the two clubs, Romelu Lukaku remains an Everton player.
According to numerous reports, United reached an agreement with Everton to sign the Belgium international for £75 million, considerably less than the £100 million that the Liverpool club were initially asking for.
The same reports, backed by Man United sources, claimed that the Europa League title holders have terminated their negotiations with Real Madrid regarding the transfer of Alvaro Morata.
As previously mentioned, Everton are yet to verify that a deal for Lukaku has been reached. The 24-year-old striker is in Los Angeles on vacation though, and Man United are flying there to start their pre-season, and that’s seen as a sign that the Belgium international will indeed become a Red Devil in a matter of a day or two.
Everton did their best to keep hold of their most important player, but Lukaku talked openly weeks ago about his ambition to play Champions League football next season, and every season after that, something that Everton cannot guarantee him (anything but).
