Chelsea’s failure to seal the seemingly agreed transfer of Ross Barkley from Everton has raised many questions, even Everton themselves were left surprised, but… larger than life character Joey Barton, shared an intriguing gossip talking to TalkSport.
I heard a really interesting thing about what happened with the Ross Barkley transfer. Conte turned his phone off and Barkley’s representatives were trying to contact him
the 35-year-old said, before giving more details.
He wanted to say ‘look, where am I going to play’, and Conte turned his phone off. That is why Barkley got cold feet and never signed. He thought, ‘well, if the manager isn’t answering the phone to me, he clearly doesn’t want me’, and that is why he went back to Everton
Barton claimed. As for Barkley himself, he still hasn’t talked in public about the reasons that made him change his mind literally the last moment.
The England international remained at Everton, but it’s doubtful he will be involved in their games soon. The way things are, a move of his in the winter transfer window should be expected.
This is a pre-World Cup season though, and instead of playing and showing things to earn his spot in the England squad that will, most probably, travel to Russia, Barkley is a spectator, and he has no one to blame for that but himself.
