Juventus beat Cagliari 3-0 at home on the opening day of the new Serie A season, but things could have gone way differently if Gianluigi Buffon had not saved a penalty in the dying minutes of the first half.
The VAR system was used for the first time in a Serie A match, it helped the referee away a penalty to the visitors, but Brazilian Diego Farias failed to beat Juve’s shot-stopper.
We’ll have to get used to waiting for the decision. In this case it was a penalty against us but fortunately we have the best guy around in goal – he sorts out all sorts of problems for us
Juventus coach Massimiliano Allegri told reporters after the match, talking about the use of VAR, and of course the presence of Buffon between the Bianconeri’s sticks.
We defended well out there, especially after the penalty. Before that. we let them in a few times, including the move that led to the penalty itself. All things considered we performed well at both ends of the pitch
the Italian manager also said. Mario Mandzukic, Paulo Dybala and Gonzalo Higuain, all three were on target as Juventus picked up their first three points of the season.
