What Made You Become A Chelsea Fan?
Many Chelsea fans were asked the question: Why did you really become a Chelsea fan?’ To answer this question, they were provided with quite a number of options to choose from. The questions included the serious ones (reasons), the less serious ones as well as those which were simply outside the box.
41% of the fans stated that supporting Chelsea is just in their blood. They said that they were simply born that way and that being a Chelsea fan is almost like a gift that they have got from birth.
This was closely followed by a massive number (23%) of the fans who stated that the reason as to why they support Chelsea is because their close family member(s) for instance a dad or a brother also support them. This has been proven to be true in most cases.
9% of the fans came in third place. They stated that what drew them to Stamford Bridge were the magical powers of Gianfranco Zola, Chelsea’s greatest player of all time. This clearly indicated just how magical a great player can be.
In the fourth place of the poll was the 8% who stated that their reason for supporting Chelsea is because everyone hates it. This is rather surprising because many people (I included) do not really care about what anyone thinks about them.
7% of the fans surprisingly said that what drew them to Stamford Bridge was the fact that Chelsea was their local team. Although this reason was unsurprising, this small figure seems to indicate that Chelsea’s fan-base is largely composed of non-local fans.
A small group of fans (2%) that came at the lower end of the scale gave the out of the box reasoning that they hate everyone else, another 2% stated that they are Chelsea fans because they are just carefree people whereas a further 2% said that their love for Chelsea was simply because of the game’s madness.
There are however two other reasons that the fans gave as to why they love Chelsea but these were however very small percentages. The first one was by a 1% of the fans who said that they love Chelsea because of the1970 FA cup win. This, however, may be an indication that either, most of the people in our site membership may not be that old or that they do not believe in the theory that success runs from one generation to the other. The second 1% gave a reason that is similar to mine (I don’t mind admitting) and that Kerry Dixon is the reason why they voted for Chelsea but they didn’t elaborate on that.
We would like to ask you what you think about the results. Do they reflect your reasons for supporting Chelsea? Note that there are tickets available for Chelsea matches so you can make your purchase any time.
