Tim, that gets done a lot in our leagues in the States. In fact, outside of the top NFL teams, the attendance given is probably 'tickets sold" rather than ""butts in seats".

Very well done to the Stags - unlike Radiohead, one imagines that they can iff afford to be as generous.

'In a similar vein, in recent times Bradford City set a very low price for a season ticket on the proviso they sold a minimum number.'

On a slight tangent, is anyone else concerned at the increasing trend of announcing 'false' attendances in the lower divisions? Basically, teams are counting all tickets sold (including all season ticket holders) rather than the actual number of people who pass through the turnstiles on the day. I know Bradford's impressive-looking attendances are boosted this way and my own lot Huddersfield have adopted it this season. I wonder how many clubs in the Football League are now doing this...

Even more recently, I seem to remember Burnley offering a very good deal whereby season ticket purchases would be rewarded with a free season ticket the year after - in the Premier League. The money lost on tickets was nothing compared to money gained by promotion.
