Graphics seem to help convey how people feel about a team, similar to a them song. Probably not the most important part but definitely an important element. I always liked it when I was on a team that had fun or memorable colors, icons, and graphic elements.

Brilliant, an article combining my too greatest passions.... design and football! Amusing though that we have two wildly divergent opinions on the 96 design. I thought the icon itself was serviceable if a bit strange, but I absolutely hate the typography.... the serif/sans-serif make me want to set myself on fire.

Thanks for sharing such a great piece of factual information, we often talk about it but never know where it actually evolved from.

WIll indeed be putting together a World Cup brand history review in the months to come. Would like to periodically write about art/design topics in relationship the sport also. The research, even in its dead ends, has been enjoyable.
