It should be pointed out that the African Union has had the Cabinda issue sitting in its regional court snce 2006 and has done nothing. FLEC has repeatedly asked for the African Union to intervene and Angola has stonewalled leaving the case in limbo until the AU finally defaults Angola.

It's worth noting that map above dates from 1977, prior to the development of the oil industry in Cabinda.

Ray, judging only from google maps, there is a road that snakes to the city of Cabinda from Pointe Noire. As to whether it's "major" or what the conditions are, I've no idea. But it's obvious that if anyone knew they were travelling by bus, they'd indeed be sitting ducks just past the border into Cabinda territory.

See the map here: http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=cabinda,+angola&sll=-4.785153,12.069168&sspn=0.556979,0.891953&ie=UTF8&hq=&hnear=Cabinda,+Angola&ll=-5.18532,12.163239&spn=1.113267,1.783905&t=p&z=10

It doesn't look there even any roads (at least major ones) from Pointe Noire into Cabinda, is there? Talk about sitting ducks. Seemed at least somewhat avoidable all the way around.
