I think there was a target on his back as soon as the club was taken over. What the Man City board put him through was nothing short of a disgrace on Saturday. I thought he conducted himself with great dignity. Pity the CIty board did not have the same values.

What was interesting was that City's statement basically said that Hughes had failed to meet his half-year targets. That tells you a whole how business-like they are international business. It's not how managers have historically been judged, but a million sales reps will shake their heads in recognition.

The Clifford piece is particularly fascinating - I've always been interested in how "physical structures" can perpetuate these standoffish notions of masculinity. For example, I understand the need for locker rooms to exist as a private sphere to shield players from the media, get focused, foster some sense of community, but simple privacy changes would allow LGBT athletes some serious breathing room. I played a sport at a university and my "hazing" was wearing a dress on all travel occasions - but I pulled the rug out with a simple question. Is the team buying me a new dress or should I wear one of my old ones?

Great stuff Ricardo! (your new Spanish nickname)
