Tom, the Professional League Task Force must mask its identity and members in anonymity or risk facing the wrath of the Sinister Cult of Unprofessional Leagues. I can let you know that Green Lantern is the treasurer, and the Punisher is the executive secretary.

Garrett, it's an application for a league in 2010. Vancouver does not join MLS until 2011, and Montreal has no set date to join MLS. St. Louis already operates a professional soccer team in WPS, and the supposed likely legal obligations to USL are what USSF needs to mediate on and find a resolution satisfactory to both parties. It's not as bleak as you paint it, I don't think.

Lets be honest though. The NASL may have enough teams in theory but the reality is that Minnesota has no money, Miami almost folded last season and couldn't even draw 1000 a game, Atlanta "took a break", St. Louis doesn't exist, Tampa Bay, Chrystal Palace, and Rochester likely have legal obligations to USL, Vancouver is set for MLS, and Montreal is actively trying to get into MLS.

In all of that I fail to see how the USSF could consider the NASL viable.
