Dave, if the Chicago Fire can sell out the SuperLiga final, I'd be surprised if DC can't manage a pretty impressive turnout on a much higher marketing budget and with an MLS opponent this year. My guess is 18,000, even if Kevin Payne has to personally bus in a few thousand himself.

You know what, Jason? You're right. I'm revising my estimate: 16,000. And 4,000 of them will be Seattle fans.

And that might still be pretty high for a Wednesday night.

You know, I hadn't really bothered with animus towards DC for the past few seasons, but this marketing campaign has really changed my mind--I hate DCU again.

I think 25k on a Tuesday night would be pretty damn good.

And Tom, I told you you'd do it better. Excellent stuff.

While it's nice to see this Open Cup Final get a little bit of buzz, let's be frank here. If a major sponsor came to USSF and offered them millions to promote this tournament in exchange for their name on the trophy and more TV coverage, Sunil Gulati would personally tell the sponsor's representatives to fuck off, then have security toss them out of the building. USSF will *never* promote the Open Cup. It is entirely up to the clubs to promote this event, and the only two MLS clubs that would are the ones in this year's final.

My prediction: no more than 25,000. And at least 5,000 of them will be Sounders fans. Just you watch.
