Fans “not” behaving badly must be great atmosphere. Don’t tell me there’s no beer for sale at the games. Or saki.

I'll never forget the display that the Urawa Reds fans made when they came to play Sydney FC in an Asian Champions League tie. They filled the supporters' bay (hardly any A-League teams manage to do that!), their choreography, noise and flags were fantastic, and outside the ground they were the most good-natured bunch of supporters we've hosted. Certainly were great ambassadors for the J.League.

Well, I think the same can be said for soccer fans everywhere. We all come out with the same old chants. It's not just a Japanese thing.

To your point about the organized nature of the chants...seems like there are certain things that will always be very Japanese. This is one of them...Going for order and "form". seems very Japanese to me. Sometimes it seems as though they just can't get way from the structure and regimen!

"holders of a British passport are entitled to discount tickets".

That must be pretty insane. I can only imagine how many Tokyo-ites are British, and they must all be amazed at how Japanese culture includes them. Probably a pretty surreal scene.

Love the babelfish inspired English comment, and the Hunnnngrrry pic, LOL.

Yes, beer is freely available at J-League games. But getting drunk for the sake of it isn't a part of Japanese sports culture.

I find this article very interesting although I am actually not fan of any football or basefall team. I am just amazed at how the Japanese group harmony can be so apparent particularly in sports where the fans take seriously the way they would show their support in a very organized and even elaborate manner. This can cause some misunderstanding specifically to one who is not familiar with the Japanese customs but I find it admirable in a lot of ways and people from other nations can perhaps learn something from it.

I don't like england football matches I prefer other leagues like Italian, Spanish or matches played at ex-Yugoslavian countries. You can see real spirit there and good tense atmosphere without unnecessary bullying. But I admit I've never been to Japanese live football game and by the pictures I see the atmosphere must be marvelous. This is my motivation to visit Japan I just have to check when are the biggest matches to visit some.

does anyone know the ticket prices for football match in Japan?
