Wonderful article! Though not related to football, another important aspect Lucien Laurent is that he's also a war hero and was called up to join the military in WWII. He was taken prisoner by the Germans and was a POW for three years until 1943. Thanks again for shedding light on Mr. Laurent.

This was very well written...if the screen were a page I wouldn't be able to put it down! This is perhaps a minor thing to comment on but Laurent's recollection of how ordinary the goal was at the time, reminded me of the member's of Miles Davis' group when they recalled the experience of making "Kind of Blue". Although, "Kind of Blue" is arguably the most famous jazz recording of all time, for the musicians at the time, it seemed like just another recording date in the studio. Anyway, thanks for the great article about the greatest sport on the planet.

“Everyone was pleased but we didn’t all roll around on the ground - nobody realised that history was being made. A quick handshake and we got on the with game". - that is simply amazing! The humble beginnings. Great post-love the ones on history and infancy of the game.
