Tom,

Thank you for the great article on the current situation with the CSA. The CSA is in a state of disarray right now. There are vacancies in key positions and have been for some time. There are some good players being produced here but we still have great strides to make.

One thing that still boggles my mind were the reports that the CSA lost money on the U-20 World Cup. I don't know that I've ever seen an explanation of how or why that happened.

Nice work to round all that up. Canada does seem on the upswing on the field -- like last year's Gold Cup. With the new home base in Toronto, perhaps they can make a run in 2010 WC qualifying for a change.

Well, if their administrators don't mess it all up...

His brother Julian de Guzman does indeed play for Canada (and for Deportivo de La Coruna) and he's one of our better players - he fills a holding mid role in La Coruna but plays a somewhat more attacking role with our MNT.

I'm pretty sure that Jonathan de Guzman grew up in Toronto and still considers it home (and I believe that the de Guzman family still lives here), but he joined Feyenoord's academy early.

Micah, I'm no expert on de Guzman's situation, but I think it's a little different tp Rossi as even up to last week, he was apparently "considering" his choice and I believe his brother plays for Canada already. Perhaps a Canadian can chime in, though.

According to Wikipedia Jonathan de Guzman has lived in The Netherlands since age 12. I'm guessing 8 years there (ages 12-20) had a bigger impact than 12 years (1-12) in Canada. Plus he was granted Dutch citizenship last year. He's the Canadian Rossi.
