There has been suspicion of interference here in the UK earlier this year. I hope it doesn't go the same way here.

Hi,

The roots of this corruption really stem back to teachers
bribing referees? That is pretty pathetic and bound to
find its way into those boy's future attitudes towards
sportsmanship and winning or losing. I suspect that the
ultimate judges will be the stadium attendance records.
Being in the shoes of a journalist background myself, I
know that media pressure doesn't help the cause.

         My 2 Cents

          Steve

Two quick questions, can or will this attitude change or this is just the way Italy function?
Match attendance has slowly declined and clubs are more and more depending on TV revenues. I understand that soccer is part of Italy, but can we see it fading away as people are getting tired of this crap?

I thought Totti's argument about Inter getting the benefit of all doubt was too cynical. And tarnishes the real problems that may exist.

Forza Roma.

Bad images in Italian football are better than in Indonesia (I am from Indonesia). Because Italy still could be world champion and also have popular league for around the world. :D

It's as absurdly funny to read this as it is sad. I understand the ceaseless suspicion, and how it influences fandom, how hard it makes it for traditional (English?) values of sportsmanship to exist in this environment. But somehow -- I could be wrong here, of course -- I've never seen Italian football or its fans to be influenced by this to the point of fatalism. There's always talk of "voglia," always the desperate will to win, or the expectation thereof. And as much as the blame game is played (hello, Byron Moreno?) endlessly, the public and the media also seem to be notoriously hard on their own players. Is it rationalism coming into conflict with eternal hopefulness? No cognitive dissonance whatsoever?

Anyway. Wonderful to read, as always. Thank you, Vanda. And thanks for translating that bit up there - it's shameful, but I laughed my head off at it.
