Tommy, I can see why Liverpool fans would feel like any change is better than nothing after months of frustration, but it's quite possible one of the Americans will stay on with DIC buying out the other -- what would you think of that? I don't think Hicks and Gillett are equally bad, from what I've read.

The question about DIC is would Al Ansari be prepared to put up his own money if the DIC investment went bad? Otherwise, it doesn't matter how much he's worth (and it's not like the Americans weren't rich themselves when they bought in).

I hate most things about football now days, especially the money side of things but I’m realistic enough to know that Moore’s big red heart wasn’t enough to take us up a level or even to keep us as a “top side” in years to come. We needed investment, its crap but that’s just the way it is now.

We trusted Moore’s decision on choosing the yanks, he always had the best interest of the clubs future in mind but it looks like they fooled him as well as us.

As for the SOS call to DIC, we know if they come in it’s not going to be all rosy again but then nothing ever is, Sheikh isn’t some mad Liverpool fan from Anfield, he’s a business man who will be out to make a profit. At the moment though, anything has got to be better than these two lying pricks so it’s a case of us just wanting shut and worrying about that when we get to it. Unlike the yanks at least Sheikh actually has money and if you have seen some of the stuff he’s done in Dubai you’ll know he doesn’t settle for anything but the best.

Metrologist, I agree it's a real problem that Liverpool fans are calling for a white knight in this fashion. Part of the problem is that they have not organised themselves in the same way Man Utd fans did since the initial sale (eventually leading to the creation of FC United of Manchester as a rejection of Glazer), and in fact embraced Hicks and Gillett in the first place. It was only when things went wrong on the field and Benitez became involved that the fans realised what was actually going on.

I also know what you mean about becoming jaded. Sometimes I get tired of writing these articles focusing on economics, as the actual football becomes an afterthought. It says much for how prostrate the Premier League is before the altar of high finance that it has come to this, but it needs to be highlighted and understood before we can get back to that.

I've got neither love nor hate for Liverpool FC and its fans, but to me there's something both pathetic and exactly, profoundly right about that SOS banner, that goes along with the whole drama that's playing itself out now. "Foreign saviors, come rescue us from our foreign saviors." We're not talking about some second-line club that got where they were by luck, some hollow, nouveau-riche club that rode a sugar daddy's wealth up during a boom time and now are getting just what they deserve. Say what you will about them if they're rivals of yours, but from this outsider's perspective LFC and its supporter base have long epitomized the union of community and club that makes English football so appealing, even at the "superclub" (tm Alexi Lalas) level; if this indicates what those supporters are reduced to...

And do they think it would really be any better under DIC? Or any other white knight who can play with the kind of money that's being talked, at this point? That's sad.

I know it's very complex and goes far beyond Gillett and Hicks, who may be greedy but probably aren't the worst characters going in the owners boxes of the EPL right now, sadly. I also know that the money side of the sport is not a new topic and I'm not naive about it, but at some point the financial games and fallout warnings become so damned distracting, that I care less and less about what goes on on the field. The jading continues apace here.
