A similar thing happened recently in Ghana as they prepare for the African Cup of Nations, where the government came in with bulldozers and flamethrowers. The Times covered the story here: http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/world/africa/article3087082.ece But seems like no other major media outlets picked up on it.
