Giovanni Trapattoni Spontaneously Self-Combusted in the 1990s

Posted November 15, 2007 in Media by

I have absolutely no idea what Giovanni Trapattoni was on about in this press conference from his days as Bayern Munich boss in the ’90s, but I’m pretty sure that if he’d continued any longer, his head would have exploded. He can scream far more scarily in a foreign language (to him) than I can in English.

Cheers to PPV for the find.

  1. Wow. That’s just…wow. That’s the most angry anyone has ever been in a shirt that’s that ridiculous. I mean, of course he’s angry! The American flag just threw up on him!

  2. He’s a 57-year-old man wearing children’s pool floats on his arms! How could he not be angry?

  3. There is a version of this on You Tube with English subtitles, but a German friend of ours has done a translation that is much better at capturing the extent to which Trap’s creativity with German vocabulary and grammar far exceeded anything that his team’s did on the pitch.

    And here it is:

“…There are currently in this team, oh, some player forget their professional what they are. I don’t read many newspapers, but I have heard many situations
We have not played offensive. There is no German team plays offensive and the names offensive as Bayern. Last match had we three strikers in pitch: Elber, Jancker and then Zickler. We muste not forget Zickler. Zickler is a strikers, more Mehmet more Basler.

Is clear those words, is possible understand, what I said have? Thanks.

Offensive, offensive is like making in pitch.

I have explained with those two players. After Dortmund possibly need halftime break. I have also seen other teams in Europe after thisse Wednesday. I have seen two days tha training, too. A trainer is not an idiot! A trainer see what happen in pitch. In thisse match there were two, three or four players, that were poor as bottle empty!

Have you seen on Wednesday, which team has played Wednesday? Has played Mehmet or played Basler or played Trapattoni? Those players complain more than they play!

Do you know why the Italy-teams do buy those players not? Because we have seen many time those match. Have said, are not players for the Italians championses.

Strunz! Strunz is here for wo years, has played ten matches, is always injured. What dare Strunz?! Last year champion became with Hamann, eh…, Nerlinger. Those players were players and had became champions. Is always injured! Has played 25 matches in this team, in this club. Have respect the others colleagues!

Have many colleagues, doubt the other colleagues! No heart took to words, but I know, what think about those players. Muste prove now, I want, Saturday, those players muste prove me, eh …, his fans, muste win the match alone. Must win the match alone!

I am tired now father of those players, eh …, always defend those players. I always have the blame about those players. One is Mario, one, another is Mehmet. Strunz on the other hand, anyway, played has only 25 per cent those match!
    I have ready!”

And since this blog sometimes talks about politics, I’ll point out that the SPD used “Ich habe fertig!” as a slogan in their unsuccessful campaign against Helmut Kohl and the CDU/CSU in 1990. “Fertig” means “ready”, but it is also what one says to the server when one is done eating one’s meal in a restaurant. What Trap was trying to say was that he was done, and had had enough.

  4. Best conference ever xD

    never forget the Trap

    “ich habe fertig”
