Steve Coppell and Quotas of English Players in the Premiership

Steve Coppell said today that “We must protect our identity by having a limited number of English players [in the Premier League].” Steve, my friend, there already is a very limited number! Of course, he means minimum quota. Steve’s a smart man yet I can’t argue with Gramsci’s Kingdom when he brutally points out that England’s problems run deeper than this. As I said on his blog, we were crap before the Premiership was overrun by Johnny Foreigner — our mistake was taking football abroad in the first place. Imagine if we could just pick on Scotland every month instead.

  1. “Imagine if we could just pick on Scotland every month instead.”

Isn’t that why you play rugby?
