Some Italian police unions issued a statement today that they believe the match should be played behind closed doors, as they think the restrictions in place are insufficient to ensure that individual Milanisti will not somehow get tickets.

My own view is that this says more about the dissatisfaction of rank and file police with their superiors than it does about any real or perceived risk, though we will no for sure on Sunday.

I find the "pigs fly" comment rather baffling.

Away fan bans in light of expected are not at all uncommon here (a general ban was of course in effect for much of last season), and the authorities' decision was widely anticipated.

It certainly is disappointing, but it is also not terribly surprising that the more excitable elements of Genoa's support would shoot their mouths off about "revenge", given that this is Milan's first game against them at the Marassi since Spagnolo was murdered.

It IS a step forward, I feel, in the prevention of violence, particularly in Italy where so much of it is actually related to the clashes between the carabinieri and the ultri, which would not need to take place if the hooliganism never took off. It's a *good* decision, a hard and stern and joyless one, but a good one, and taken by the right people. I'm really happy that Genoa's management are owning the responsibility for this.
