I imagine most US sports fans are fairly cynical these days with Barry Bonds steroid revelations, referee financial shenanigans in the NBA, and Michael Vick's recent trip to the "dog house." And, lets not even mention the Tour de France. If MLS is looking for a marketing angle, sell soccer to the masses as something new(ish), fresh, and (relatively) free of scandal and cynicism. An oasis of honest competition in a desert of sports scandal. Hokey won't cut it, and may even scare off some of the faithful. This kind of transparent, and poorly executed marketing will KILL MLS. Of course, its also not really terrace material - but the song at least strikes me as authentic in a way that these MLS attempts don't. MLS and whoever is working with them really needs to stop alienating fans through corporate ignorance.
