Interesting comments, weenie, and I hope we'll hear more from you as the venture progresses. I do certainly agree that most people who bought into it are genuinely excited and will be passionate about 'their' club.

The point about being a fan of your local club, though, is that you kind of are born with it -- all those Man Utd fans down south excepted. Still, perhaps that is an old-fashioned view. I guess my concern is that if things go wrong, MFC will just exit and find another club, as it doesn't really matter where that club is, the fans not being local anyway.

Interesting points about the ambition and why you didn't start your own club. I do hope it works out well for all concerned, and certainly, I'd rather my own team were bought by MFC than Thaksin or Bates.

Does it matter that the fans are not local? Man United's fans hardly all live in Manchester, never mind in the UK!

I can see why you (and others) are being sceptical. There’s a lot of talk about us all being 1) a ‘random bunch with no connection to the club’, 2)’with no passion for the club’ and 3) who ‘are doing this for the wrong reasons’.

I can’t pretend to know all the answers but in answer to 1) When we find out which club is purchased, we will no longer be random and disconnected, we will all be fans of this club; 2)Passion for a club has to start somewhere, you aren’t born supporting a club! 3) As there is no financial gain in this for myfootballclub members, the only reason is that we want the club to succeed, so how is this the wrong reason?

Existing fans may not like the takeover; when have fans ever liked any sort of takeover, Glazer, Shiniwatra, Bates, et al? But if they find out what it is that MFC want to achieve, in time they will see that it’s the right move.

There were reasons for not starting our own club up, the main one being the objective of MFC is to get a small club up through the leagues into the Premier League. To start from scratch, whilst totally romantic, is unrealistic and unlikely to happen in most MFC's lifetimes.

But the fact that four clubs approached MFC with the view of being bought out shows that the scheme is viable and one to be seriously considered.

Join the revolution and make football history!

That's a good example, Trent, and there are also some in English soccer too. But what's different here is that the fans who own the club will not be local or accountable to the current club's fans (though they could also buy into it, of course). Still, nor are most owners of English clubs these days!

For one example, the Green Bay Packers are collectively owned by the citizens of Green Bay, WI (at least most of them), and seem to have done alright by it. Of course they have a leadership structure, but one way or another it's been worked out.
