Landon Loves To Riot
According to ESPN Soccernet, anyway:
Before the Chelsea game July 21, Landon Donovan and his wife, actress Bianca Kajlich, handed the Riot Squad an envelope with $600.
That’s the LA Galaxy’s Riot Squad supporters group (LARS). Well, who would know from looking at the apparently mild-mannered Landon Donovan that he would support WANTON RIOTS and FOOTBALL HOOLIGANS? Erm, sorry, just channeling the British tabloid editor in me there that desperately wants to get out.
Actually, this is a class gesture by Landon, and good on the Riot Squad. We’ve already reported on some dodgy media coverage of LARS this week, and here’s a video that shows they’ve got a bit of that Hollywood creativity running through their veins

And here’s hoping the LARS use the $600 to do something cool at a game. Or alternatively, buy a lot of beer. They deserve it, just for having to go through the interminable Beckham-hoopla.
Spotted on the LA Galaxy Offside.

It starts off so strong but then they just repeat 3 clips and have a few uninspiring pictures. The blow up doll thing was cool but thats one of the few memorable things they’ve done
Regarding the barras bravas, the Argentine football gangs, Simon Kuper writes that ‘After the [1986] World Cup in Mexico he [Maradona] wrote them a cheque for $30,000′.
Is this the start of players paying off organised fans to avoid constant barracking from the crowd, or even a beating when leaving the training field? In Landon’s case, we can only hope so.
