Well Done, Legia Warsaw Fans

For their behaviour in the video below, Legia Warsaw fans have managed to get their club expelled from the Intertoto Cup, as Soccernet reports.

UEFA officials abandoned the second-round match in Vilnius after fans of the Polish club clashed with police and fired numerous missiles onto the pitch.

FK Vetra had been winning 2-0 when the hooliganism started. As well as their expulsion from the Intertoto Cup this season, Legia will also be banned for one future campaign should they qualify within the next five years.

  1. This is absolutely sick! I am far from denying anything happened, but did anyone actually try to put some penalty on Vetra?! How come the organizers, who failed to preserve safety at the ground seem to be blameless?
What some may not know- Legia Warszawa informed the Lithuanian side, that they would like to take care of ticket sales to ensure that no-one unwanted would get there as Vilnius is very close to Warsaw and it was certain that masses from Poland will attend this extremely cheap away fixture! Vetra said no- they’ve let everyone in with only 100 policemen keeping guard. The organizers were completely unprepared, ingored the information from Warsaw and still- they didn’t even get a scratch from UEFA. In my humble opinion- sick.

  2. Very interested to get an alternate take on it. Do you have any links to more information on what happened? I’d love to write a follow-up post if so.
