If Pele, Beckenbauer, and assorted galacticos couldn't keep America interested in soccer 20 years ago, it's going to be a tough call for Beckham to do it today single-handed. There's no doubt Beckham is a great ambassador for the sport, but I get the feeling that soccer will always be a minority sport for Americans - I hope I'm wrong. I get the feeling we’ve been here before. There’s no doubt Beckham is a great ambassador for the sport, but I get the feeling that soccer will always be a minority sport for Americans – I hope I’m wrong.

I'm sure he'll do his bit, but it'll take a lot more Beckhams to elevate the game to a high enough level for some people.
