Weekend Wrap

We started off this week with a trip to the Gold Cup final, where we watched as a bewildered neutral while the U.S. won on what felt like foreign soil by Chicago’s lakefront. We then held our first battle of the ultras, as Lech Poznan’s video supremacy was challenged by fellow Polish supporters of Legia Warsaw.

As usual, we navel-gazed at American soccer’s progress and prospects, considering the rise of the game for the youtube generation and its popularity compared to hockey. And we saw that everyone is desperate for a peak at the U.S.’s Copa America team, even if it means going behind the back of an armed guard.

Finally, we looked at the darker side of football: the death of a fan in Argentina.

Remember to drop me a line to tom@pitchinvasion.net if you’re interested in writing for us. If you have any good photos to share, add them to the Pitch Invasion photo pool on Flickr. We’re going web 2.0 crazy right now, so you can also find our group on youtube – join that and add any videos you think should be featured here. And if you’re really smart, you can even find and join us on Facebook, but we haven’t figured out how to link people there yet. . .
